Where there is greed, what love can there be? - Sikh saying
Greed is not only excessive love of money and power, but inordinate ambition, domination, cheating, dishonesty, abuse of authority, and embracing worldly success alone as the goal and meaning of life. But greed can manifest in more subtle ways, like hoarding information or skills or hiding your talents. Not allowing your light to so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify God.
Refusing to respect the integrity of God's creation and God's creatures is a manifestation of Greed. Mahatma Gandhi said "Earth provides enough to satisfy everyone's need, but not everyone's greed." Our culture is one of profligate waste of natural resources.
The root of Greed in the soul keeps a person (or culture) wanting and needing. The more you feed this beast, the more ravenous it gets. Is love possible when acquisition of material goods is the highest value?
Even foolish people know that money can't buy happiness. But the wise discover endless abundance in the delights of Generosity.
Help me to know my needs and lavish me with the love of giving.
